Overview


Since its founding in 1967, the College has launched rewarding careers for thousands of people. Drawing from its close relationships with industry, George Brown College creates and continually enhances relevant programs and curriculum to serve the needs of both students and employers by producing workplace-ready graduates who are highly sought after. Comparative research of Ontario's colleges has revealed that nine out of 10 George Brown graduates get jobs within just six months of graduation.

George Brown College is one of Canada's largest, most diversified and highly respected colleges, serving a broad and vibrant student body with an incredibly rich program mix of apprenticeship training, certificates, diplomas and degrees.In addition to its industry connections, George Brown College also nurtures strategic relationships with government agencies, community partners, and educational associations, both within Ontario and beyond. By remaining widely connected to the community in which the College operates, George Brown is better able to provide the programs that will enable our students to achieve their dreams of getting the careers they want.

The College has three main campuses in downtown Toronto at Casa Loma, St. James and Ryerson University, along with 10 training facilities, from which it offers 150 full-time programs, and 1,200 continuing education courses. Students can pursue their career goals choosing from diplomas, degrees and certificates.

  • George Brown currently has a partnership with Ontario Student Housing www.ontariostudenthousing.com.

Types of Housing for George Brown Students

  • Rent rooms or flats in private houses.
  • Share a rented multi-room apartment or house with other students.
  • Rent students own apartment.
  • Live in a college/university or independent student residence such as Neill-Wycik Co-op College or Best Western Toronto's Primrose Hotel/Residence.

Costs

  • Sharing with other students can cost $400 to $600 a month in rent. Apartments cost $550 to $700 for a bachelor (one room plus kitchen and bathroom) and well over $1,000 for big apartments. Housing downtown tends to be more expensive than outlying areas. Parking is expensive near George Brown campuses, so public transportation is a good bet. A monthly Metropass offering unlimited travel on Toronto subways, buses and streetcars currently costs $98.50 a month.

  • George Brown College’s Awards program recognizes excellence and assists students with the costs of their education through non-repayable scholarships, awards, and bursaries.

Scholarships for International Students

  • The college provides two full-tuition postsecondary scholarships and 12 partial scholarships for international students.

Library


The College provides students with access to learning resources and open access computing through their campus Library/Learning Commons (LLCs).Their LLC provides them with access to the technology, resources and assistance required for they to do research, course assignments and projects, and independent study. The variety of resources provided at each LLC reflects the areas of study on that campus.

University campus Library/Learning Commons is WiFi enabled and provides students with access to:

  • electronic and print books
  • periodicals and newspapers
  • library instruction facilities
  • multimedia PCs for open access computing
  • e-mail
  • the Internet
  • an Adaptive Technology Lab for students with disabilities (at Casa Loma and St. James)
  • a satellite open access computer lab at the St. James Campus that provides access to additional workstations during the day

How to Apply


Admission Requirements:


For admission to a post-secondary program (diploma/certificate/postgraduate/degree), the applicant must:

  • Have graduated from senior secondary school or equivalent; or graduated from a university or college if applying for a postgraduate program
  • Be 18 years of age or older at time of registration.
  • If students are under 18, they must submit custodianship documents and a senior secondary high school graduation certificate.
  • Pay the non-refundable $65 application fee
  • Provide proof of English proficiency, if English is not the first language in their country and was not the language of instruction in their school
