Gyan Vihar School of Hotel Management & Catering Technology was established in 2003 and is located in Mahal, Jagatpura – Jaipur. The institute focuses on the overall development of the students, and on improving their presentation and communication skills. The institute provides quality education along with practical hands on training which enables students to get absorbed easily in the industry. The institute provides world class facilities and advanced training to students making them efficient for the industry.

Management of SGVU’s primary objective is to provide the opportunity for students to obtain knowledge in a variety of disciplines related to the hotel industry. The Department of Hotel Management and Catering Technology offers 4-year Bachelor of Hotel Management & Catering Technology program with an annual intake of 60 students. The Department prepares quality trained manpower for the Hospitality industry.

In addition to extensive theoretical and practical training in the hospitality operational areas, management subjects such as Principles of Management, Sales and Marketing, Human Resources Management,

Finance as well as related technical subjects such as Food Science, Nutrition and Hygiene form part of the syllabus of the 4 year BHM program.
Functions of school are divided into four basic departments of hospitality education i.e. Front office, F & B, Housekeeping and Production. School has well equipped 10 laboratories with most advanced equipments and facilities for real hands on experience.

  • The Managers

Hotel managers are responsible for the efficient and profitable operation of their establishments. The General Manager controls the finances, establishment norms to be followed by the staff while providing their services to the guests, housekeeping, food quality, decor and interiors. Assistant Managers supervise the day-to-day operations of their departments. Large hotels have Resident Managers to resolve problems round the clock. The Department Managers work under the supervision and guidance of the top management.

  • The Front Office Manager

The first people to welcome guests in a hotel are the personnel in the front office. The Front Office Manager supervises the work of the receptionists, information clerk, reservation clerk and other service personnel like bell captain, bell boy and doorman. The Bell Boy assists the guests with the baggage to check in to the room. The Bell Captain supervises the work of bell boys. The Information Clerk delivers the telephone messages to the guests through the Bell Captain.

  • The Food Production Head

It is a department which deals with the preparation of different types of food items. It is not a visible department to the guest because it usually works in the back area. It makes the food more delicious and attractive by different styles of cooking method. Different cuisine like mexican, italian, Chinese etc.has their own kitchen and specialized chef to work on it according to their skills. Bakery department comes under this which include preparation of desserts, breads etc. The staffing details are as follows:

  • Restaurant and Food Service Managers

They are responsible for stocks of tableware, linens, paper, supplies furniture, and fixtures cleaning. They arrange for equipment maintenance and repairs. They also have to maintain records of hours and wages of employees, payrolls, and taxes, etc. Banquet Managers are in-charge of catering assignments.

  • Housekeeping

A hotel requires maintenance on a very large scale. Hotels have a house keeping department to look after cleanliness in rooms, lounges, lobby, restaurant, dining halls, parks etc. This department functions under the supervision of the Executive Housekeeper. Executive Housekeepers are responsible for ensuring that guest rooms, meeting and banquet rooms and public areas are clean, orderly and well maintained. They train, schedule and supervise the work of housekeepers, inspect rooms and order for the necessary supplies. Housekeeping is a round the clock job .This department works in shifts.

Today marketing of services is a major aspect of hotel management. Sales and marketing division works to identify the needs of prospective customers, develop stay packages to suit their needs and sell the services, which have been developed.

An exclusive body, the training and placement cell, looks into the career objectives of students. It developed and directed towards mediating interface between the institute and industries.

  • The Training and Placement cell provides excellent infrastructure to support every stage of the placement process. Arrangement for the pre training and placements talks, written test, interviews and group discussion are made as per the requirements of the organization as well as the students. A regular corporate interaction weaves the thread to create a mosaic for nearly hundred percent placements.
  • Welfare provision at the institute is extremely wide -ranging. The advisory service aims to provide professional and objective advice and information service for all students at SGVU through counseling. The counselling offer confidential support to students on any matter that cause concerns such as bereavement, relationships, anxiety and stress related to their work. About 20 students from each year will get attached to each faculty member and they act as their Tutor Guardian, looking after all the academic and non academic needs of the students resulting in their overall development.
