About Institute


LIBA, established in 1979, is a premier management institute known for its academic excellence and value-based education. It provides management education to both fresh graduates seeking world-class management education and also to those who are already employed and want to enhance their managerial skills. The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (full-time) is being offered since 1995. Both the part-time and the full-time PGDM programmes are approved by the AICTE and the full-time programme is recognised by the AIU as equivalent to the MBA degree of Indian Universities. LIBA also has collaborations with several Universities overseas and seeks to imbibe a global mindset in its students. There is also a strong focus on consultancy and research and LIBA encourages its faculty and students to undertake consultancy projects with corporates.

Situated in the heart of Chennai city, within the sprawling Loyola campus, LIBA is a world in itself. Its scenic and idyllic surroundings provide an experience beyond compare. However, in contrast to its surroundings, LIBA is a volcano of activities, ideas and ambitions. State-of-the-art infrastructure facilities at LIBA render an atmosphere that is conducive for learning and development.


Courses Offered

Part-time PGDM programme

The part-time PGDM programme, spread over three years, consists of 9 terms, approximately of three months duration each. The classes are held from Monday through Friday (between 6.45 PM and 8.30 PM) so that students can attend classes without any difficulty.

Objective

The objective of the three-year part time PGDM is to equip working executives acquire managerial skills necessary to take up senior management. The course is structured in such a way, that students of the part-time programme go through the same rigour as the full-time programme. Executives with a willingness to learn the latest management mantras to further their career growth are best suited to this programme.

Eligibility & Admission Procedure


The candidate should be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized University or hold a professional qualification recognized as equivalent to a Bachelors degree and should have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate.

The candidate should have had full time work experience in Business / Industry / Government for a minimum period of two years.

The candidate should be employed at the time of applying for the programme.

Admission Procedure

The admission procedure usually consists of a written test followed by a group discussion and personal interview held at LIBA, Chennai.

Interested candidates are requested to obtain the application form available at the admissions office, LIBA, on payment of the prescribed fee, either by way of cash or by demand draft favouring LIBA, payable at Chennai.

Application must be made in the prescribed form only and the same should reach LIBA on or before the specified date. Applications received after the cut-off date will not be entertained.

The admissions committee will make a preliminary evaluation of applications received. Those short-listed will be asked to appear for a written test conducted by LIBA.

The LIBA Admission Test is of objective type and is designed to evaluate the candidate’s aptitude in areas such as verbal and quantitative skills, analytical reasoning and general knowledge. For further information, please refer to the prospectus.

Candidates can either appear for the LIBA admission test or the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) conducted by AIMA. Candidates who opt for the MAT, should attach a copy of the MAT score card along with the filled-in application form of LIBA.

Based on the scores of the written test, short-listed candidates will be called for subsequent rounds of group discussions and personal interviews to be conducted at LIBA. List of short-listed candidates will be displayed on the LIBA notice board few days after the exam and will also be notified mandate by post.

Fees shall be paid at the beginning of each term, not later than the date mentioned in the LIBA Notice Board or in their letter of admission, the prescribed fees. The total estimated fees for a term are Rs.15500/-. In addition, library deposit of Rs. 3000/- (refundable) needs to be paid along with the first semester fees and Rs. 2500/-towards fees for Diploma and Convocation and Alumni Association along with the ninth semester fees.

 

Placement Details


FINAL PLACEMENT

Final Placement is organised over the span of a week. The graduate batch of 2010 has 112 students who will participate in the final placement process. The current batch is extremely diverse and boasts of profiles ranging from engineering and commerce to arts and business.


LATERAL PLACEMENT

Lateral placement is also organised over the span of one week. Students with work experience of over 18 months are eligible to sit for the lateral placement process.Approximately one-third of the students of the current batch are eligible for lateral placement.


SUMMER PLACEMENT

At the end of the first year, students are required to undertake an industrial project in order to practically apply the theory they have learnt to life issues. The summer internship programme encourages students to undertake research-based projects in order to gain practical industrial experience. Summer placement is held when companies come to the LIBA campus for pre-placement talks.


Placement Process

LATERAL / FINAL PLACEMENT

Companies register with the institute for participation in the Placement Process by filling in the
tear-away registration form provided in the brochure.

Companies are invited on campus for pre-placement talks. Pre-placement presentations are considered mandatory as they help facilitate a better understanding of the requirements of not only students but also companies.

The slotting of companies for placement is done on the basis of the ranking given by students, which is influenced by the profiles and salaries offered by various companies.
