The Poona college of Arts Science & commerce was founded In the year 1970 by the Anjuman Khairul Islam (A.K.I.) Mumbai and is affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) at the Junior College level and to the University of Pune at the Senior College level in a short period of 38Years, the college has grown into a full fledged degree college with P.G. centers in Electronics Computer Science, Organic Chemistry, Zoology, English, Economics, Urdu and Commerce. The college can proudly boost of having full fledged University recognised research centers in Commerce, Chemistry & Economics with research guides in the above subjects.The college is also planning to have research centres in Urdu and English very shortly. It is a matter of pride that the college has University approved research guides in the subjects such as English, Bio-mathematics, Geology & Environmental Science, Botany and Bioinformatics.
The PoonaCollege is also the first college in Pune to be selected by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi for the introduction of Computer Maintenance course at the degree level as a part of the UGC programs "Vocationalization of First Degree Education" from the academic year 1994-95. The college also imparts teaching for vocational course of Electronics and information Technology at the Junior College level. The college has been accredited by NAAC and was awarded 'A' Grade in Feb. 2004.
The institute is fully equipped with modern infra structural facilities and has top class Faculty members. Due to the dedication of highly qualified staff, the strength of the college has reached around 6200 students, of which 3600 are in SeniorCollege. The University and Board Examination results speak well of the high degree of academic excellence attained by the students who are equally proficient in co-curricular activities in which they take keen interest. Stress is laid on character building and all round development of the student's personality. Students are also encouraged to take active part in sports and they have made good progress in this field too. Special attention is paid to the students coming from economically backward and other backward classes as well as scheduled castes and tribes.
Students securing 85 percent or more marks at the Public Examinations/S,S.C/H.S.C. Examination will be considered for the award of the College Merit Scholarship, Free Studentship in the form of full or partial remission of tuition fees may be granted to poor and deserving students at the beginning of every term. Special concession is given to the students of educational backward communities.

1.Application for admission to the college should be made on a prescribed admission form by all the students including those who were in this college during the previous year. This is done immediately after the declaration of the results of the pertinent examination of the previous year.
2.The prescribed form and prospectus can be had from the college office either personally or by post. For obtaining it by post, a request should be sent to the college at the following address: The Principal, AKI's PoonaCollege of Arts Science & Commerce, PuneCamp, Pune-411001 (India).
The request Should be accompanied by Indian Postal Order of RS-150/- in favour of Principal, PoonaCollege payable at Pune, The name of the course to which admission is sought should be clearly mentioned in the request letter
3.The admission form, duly completed in all respects and accompanied by requisite documents should be submitted/sent to the college on or before the last date notified by the college. The list of requisite documents to be attached to the admission form is described in the next section. The admission forms which are incomplete or incorrectly filled or submitted late will be summarily rejected.
4.Out of the total available seats for each course. 50% seats will be reserved for the students belonging to Muslim minority Community.
5.The admission form will be scrutinized by the College Office and signed by the appropriate authorities and the merit list will be drawn from amongst all the applicants. The grant of admission to the course rests solely with the College/ University Authorities.
6.The students whose names have appeared in the merit list will have to confirm their admission by paying the prescribed fees at the cash counter of the college immediately. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of his/her claim for admission and the seat will be allotted to those on waiting List. The fees receipt obtained after paying the fees should be carefully preserved by the student.
7.The admission granted by the college is provisional, until it is confirmed! by the university. For admission to senior college classes, preference will be given to students who have passed the qualifying examination from our college. However, such students cannot claim admission to senior college by right.
