Sri Aurobindo Centre for Arts & Communication, New Delhi (SACAC)is a centre for learning that promotes individual growth with emphasis on deeper understanding of creative expressions and mass media. SACAC is a unit of Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry,It conducts professional programmes in Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations, Television & Film Production, Audio Recording and Creative Photography. Program Structure


Creative Photography

The one-year course of Post Graduate Diploma in Professional Photography commences with workshops that connect the students to their own creative selves. The students then are exposed to film SLR cameras to understand basic technicalities involved. Discussions on history of photography are conducted to get a perspective on the evolution of photography as a medium for artistic expression. Students learn the basics of light, composition, exposure, shutter speed through various exercises and rigorous feedback sessions. The course gives special attention to critical appreciation of pictures by Master Photographers that makes it unique as compared to regular Diploma in Photography or Digital Photography courses. Soon they move to explore new developments in digital photography and utilize them to capture aesthetically stimulating pictures with due respect to the art of photography. Workshops are organized on technical accessories such as flash, studio lights, reflectors, lenses and filters. Simultaneously workshops are conducted on various subjects such as music, films, theatre, painting to understand basic drive and purpose of documenting human interest through photography. Students are expected to visit exhibitions, seminars and symposiums, participate in debates and discussion to critically deconstruct media and its components. Photographers of repute visit the campus with their body of work to discuss their approach and experiences. This helps develop the mind to look at things critically so as to evolve an inner eye that sees things with newer perspectives. At the end of the course, students are expected to showcase best of their work in the annual diploma exhibition.

This course in unique in India that looks at photographic career in a new light as an artistic pursuit as compared to other offered diploma in photography, professional photography courses and digital photography courses.

Semester III

This semester is aimed at learning the process of curating each student's body of work over the year and organizing a photo exhibition. As the preparation progresses, students understand the process of captioning a picture, mounting it on a wall and present it to the audience at exhibitions. Special sessions are organized where students learn how to deal with the business of photography, understand the pricing dynamics and how to market their work. The exhibition works as a platform for the students to showcase their work for critical public appreciation as their diploma project

Infrastructure

  • SACAC campus is situated in the heart of South Delhi. It is an approximately 3 acre green campus that promotes intellectual growth.
  • It also houses an auditorium, amphitheater, editing studio, audio studio, photography studio, library and online resourceCentre.
  • The curriculum is an intensive mix of theory, practice and feedback.
  • The teaching happens in formal class rooms, studios, labs and also extends to more non-formal spaces such as its lawns and canteen.
  • Students regularly attend workshops, seminars, symposiums and film screenings and festivals.
