StellaMarisCollege, a Catholic institution of higher education for women is an autonomous college affiliated to the University of Madras and is partly residential. StellaMarisCollege, which is under the direction of the Society of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, is a minority institution that provides university education in a Christian atmosphere for deserving students, especially those belonging to the Catholic community.
Beginning in a small one-storey building on August 15th, 1947, with an enrolment of 32 students, Stella Maris College has at present over 3000 students housed in large buildings on the beautiful campus of "The Cloisters", Cathedral Road, Chennai.
StellaMarisCollege is under the Management of the Institute of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. It was founded on August 15, 1947 with an enrolment of 32 students in the Intermediate Class.
With the introduction of the credit based system since 1997-98 the StellaMarisCollege is offering many new academic programmes encouraging interdisciplinary associations. Along with the management, a dynamic team of faculty drawn from the aided and self-financing sections contribute significantly to the fulfilment of the academic programmes.
Bachelor of Computer Applications (B.C.A.) is a fulltime undergraduate programme offered by the institute. The duration of this course is three years. The course covers all the related topics of the study field and gives rigorous training to the students.
StellaMarisCollege library is fully automated with a wide collection of the latest books, periodicals and CDs.
This collection is expanded and updated each year.
The open access system provides reading and reference facilities for faculty and students.

Computer Centre
StellaMarisCollege has state of the art facilities with networks of around 150 nodes and an up to date departmental library.
Besides having two well-equipped computer laboratories attached to the Department of Computer Science,
StellaMarisCollege has two other equally well-equipped computer laboratories which are used by other U.G. and P.G. departments for courses in Computer Science as well as for Internet browsing.
Writing Centre
The objective of the Writing Centre is to improve the writing skills of students, specifically in the areas of grammar, organisation and style.
The centre functions with the help of staff advisors from the English Department and writing assistants from the final year U.G. and P.G. classes.
Students from various departments, who need help, have access to the Writing Centre, where they will receive individual guidance in writing skills (assignments, term papers etc.)
Other Facilities
StellaMarisCollege provides photocopying and telephone facilities for faculty and students at the DTP Centre.
Various Government scholarships are available for students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes (including those converted to Christianity), Most Backward Classes and De-notified Communities and Other Backward Classes.
Scholarships instituted by the Management and other sources including those instituted in the Golden Jubilee year and in the new Millennium are also available.
