The University of Manitoba was established in 1877.The University of Manitoba is western Canada's first university ocated in the city of Winnipeg, the University is the province's premier post-secondary educational institution and its only research-intensive university. The university has an enrolment of approximately 27,000 students - 24,000 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate.TheUniversity of Manitoba offers the largest selection of degree programs, including professional and graduate programs of any university in the province. In all, 82 degree programs are offered, 51 at the undergraduate level, in academic programs as diverse as agricultural and food sciences, music, engineering and medicine. Most of our academic units offer graduate studies programs leading to master’s or doctoral degrees. Indian students required second division or higher in one of: All-Indian Senior School Certificate, Higher Secondary Certificate (Pre-Degree, Pre-Professional or Pre-University), Intermediate Certificate, Higher Secondary Certificate Part 2.
Facilities include the Frank Kennedy Physical Education Centre, the Max Bell Centre, University Stadium, the Investors Group Athletic Centre and the Joe Doupe Recreation Centre at the Bannatyne Campus.
Recreation Services provide recreation, fitness and sport programs for students, staff, and the community at large.
Bison Sports is one of the elite inter-university athletic programs in Canada. Bison Sports 16 teams compete in nine different sports: basketball, cross country, football, golf, hockey, soccer, swimming, track and field, and volleyball.
71 Bison Athletes received distintion as Academic All-Canadians in 2007-2008, achieving a 3.5 grade point average.
The Bison Football team brought home the 2007 Vanier Cup National Championship after a perfect 12-0 season.
